Hand dyed yarn and a lot.

I have test dyed some of the skeins I got in, 2 of the superwash BLF&nylon blend, 3 lace suri alpaca/ merin/silk and 3 with BFL. I love how the yarn takes the dyes, I even dyed two skeins with coffee and love the brown shaded color.

From left, it is blue BFL, the other three skeins are merino&silk 50% all fiber are from Fiber artist. Bought at Garnkorgen – Sweeden. The two spindles are not new, but I had to try to spin the fiber at once I got the fiber 😛

White BFL tops, Fino baby alpaca yarn from Alpaca with a Twist, double row hand combs from Louet and Beth The Spinning Loft had also send sample of angora tops, that is the white little tops to the right. The red fiber is a sample off merino&tencel from Ashland bay. Thank you Beth.

For a long time, I have look at Knitzi trying to decied if I like it ore not. So in the end I just needed to buy one and try, I love it. Yes, it is bigger then the other knitting needles case I have, but my new Harmony Woods I want to protect 😀

Yes, I know some times since latest bloging.

But there is so much to do this days and my health are not the best also, so what has happen since last bloging?

Last Monday I had the «Bergen knitting lady’s» here, a new idea we have no is to have a swap. This time after voting we had a swap with sock yarn and secret pattern, this is what I got from Irenetur lovely green Opal and English pattern 😛

secret-sock-swap.jpg

So what am I else doing, well I am finish with 3 long wristlets knitted in the angora yarn I hand dyed with Wilton’s leaf green and black.

long-wristlets-angora.jpg

Also finish with plying white angora&silk, ready to wind up. One bobbin finish with wildgrey angora, one more to go before plying.

30-okt-angora-wildgrey.jpg

I also ball wind the English angora yarn I was finish with for a while ago, this wool was bought from Leah in Michigan.

I measured the yarn it is 4.06 ounce and 550 yards, this is what I have begin to knit; a shawl in feather and fan.

phoebe-feather-and-fan.jpg

I know that is not good of my to have a favorite dog, but I must admit Charlie is my special boy 🙂

Just take a look at him, are you not agree?

The Mirasol project in Peru.

Today I went to To Damer to buy more Fabel to Peggy and Allena in US, and when I was going to leave May told me about that Mirasol had got there own yarn collection.

The yarn is beautiful just take a look at the photos:

p9170019.jpg
From left is Sulka 60% merino wool and 20% Alpaca & 20% silk, Hacho who is 100% hand dyed merino wool, Miski 100% Baby Llama.

p9170023.jpg

Here is the sample card of the colors 😛

I just love the yarn and since I am crazy after hand dyed yarn the Hacho is gorgeous in the colors. I told May the owner of the store that tomorrow the Bergen Knitting Lady is coming to me, and that I was going to tell about the new yarn she had got. But you know, telling and feeling on the yarn are much better 😛 so I got a skein with each type to show the ladys and also a color card samples. Guess who is going to have a fun time tomorrow 🙂

Short about the Mirasol project: Mirasol is a young girl that shepard alpaca’s in Peru, Kari Hestness from Du store Alpakka in Norway meet Mirasol and here brother Alex when she visit Peru. For the whole story read here on Mirasolperu.

When I buy wool many of the suppliers stat that the animal are having the best care, yes that is very important. But for me it is also very important then I buy yarn it is of the Fair Trade idea, so with the Mirasol yarn I know that I support a good case.

I also hand dyed some yarn yesterday and are very pleased with the results:

angora-and-blend.jpg

The colors are not quite correct on the red one, that is more orange/golden that is 100% hand spun angora. The other one has different shades of green and I am very satisfied with how it turned out, it is hand spun 50% angora, 25% silk and 25% merino. This yarn I am going to knit socks to my nephew Erik, it is a late birthday present.

I got packet from US today :o)) and more angora&silk / silk yarn finish.

Finally the post office found my packet today, it arrived already on tuesday. But my local post office had scanned the wrong numbers. Well, well the most important of all here is what was inside the packet:

packets-from-us.jpg

From Knitpicks I had orded knitting needles and two sets of Options Knitting Needle Set from Knitpicks, one of the sets is to Irenetur so I have not gone totally mad 😛 Some lace skein from Knitpicks, 1 white merino, 2 Gossamer in Carribean and Blue Jeans this is 100% merino, 2 skein of Shimmer in Morning Mist and Turguoise Splendor.

knitpicks-yarn.jpg

Here is a photos of Knitpicks Options Knitting Needle Set, here is what who is inside the carrying case:
Knitting needles tips -US Sizes: 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,10.5 and 11
Cables – 2 each of 24″ and 32″ lengths
Accessories – 1 Knitting Needle Case with 6 Knitting Needle Pockets (2 single, 2 double, 2 triple), 8 End Caps and 2 Cable Keys.
I also bought two more cables in 40 and 47 inch a View Sizer, since there is no marked on the needle tips and Coil Knitting Needle Holders.

dsc_0013.jpg

I need later to order some more of the regular circular knitting needles, since the interchangeable first begin from 3.5 mm.

This one is what I rely wanted, the Yarn Meter and WPI Tool and Knit Card. So from know I will no how many meters the yarn is exactly. Until know I have counted the lap when the yarn has been at the yarn winder.
dsc_0008.jpg

And then Allena my wonderful pal, I got to know thruee Spin To Knit swap. She had send me Shetland wool from here own sheep. They are so soft and wonderful, straiten up the bad impressing I got from the terrible harsh Shetland woolI got from UK when I bought some drop spindles. There where also some lovely handdyed skein of yarn, that is there skein you can see on the right on the first photos.

Thank you so much for all the help Allena, since Knitpicks don’t send to Norway I need help from my friends in US 🙂

But I have also been spinning, so here is 134 gram with lace angora&silk yarn. I have it winded up at the yarn winder and are going to use the Yarn meter to see how many meter the yarn is. I will maybe hand dyed this yarn, since there was so many that like the purple angora&silk yarn I hand dyed for a while back.

dsc_0102.jpg

I also had a left over at the mulberry silk, so I navaho plyed the silk. Navahoe plyed, meanst that it is a 3 treads yarn. I it just 10 gram, so I don’t know what to knit of it. But to be pure silk it is very soft 😛

dsc_0103.jpg

My fiber swap packet arrived today.

For a while back I joined Fiber swap and today I got my packet, this is one of the most funny swap I have joined, why because my secret pal is Peggy. A spinner in Kentucky US, that I got to know thruee one of the yahoo spinner group. Can’t remember who of them, since I am member of more then one.

Peggy send me Romney, I have talked a lot of that I would like to try to spin Romney. Since there is so many that have talk so nice about the wool. There was also a gorgous hand dyed bombyx silk from Abby’s yarn, Burt’s Bee hand care kit, a initial it bookmark with my H on, beautiful crochet clothes and the most funny a Keychan Sock Blocker Sock that I for a long time had tought of buying and some Wilton’s ice dying.

p6140007.jpg

For a while ago Peggy told me that she had bought Tofutsie sock yarn, that is made of 50% Superwash Wool, 25% SOYSILK brand fiber, 22.5% Cotton, 2.5% Chitin (made from shrimp and crab shells!) It was the Chitin that made me intrested, so I ask Peggy if she could buy a couple of skein to me. She has aslo been a angel and right after easter, she got to the shop to buy me easter egg dyes tablet think she was in more then one shop. And not that they sell lipgloss here home, but when I was in San Diego last autum Anita and I shoped Victoria Secret’s lip gloss Beauty Rush. That is one of the best lip gloss I have tried, gives a lot of moisture and have a discret gloss effect. Since I lost mine, and Victoria Secret doe ship to Norway but had a high shipping price I ask Peggy if she could help me.

So here is photos of the other items she have been traveling around in shop to get me, thank you so much Peggy.

p6140010.jpg

It has also been very warm here in Bergen and the rest of the country, suddenly from about 15-18 degree we got very high temperature about 30 degree. So it was not so much done here, I had plans to get out the blood of the freezer to begin to train the kids again. But with this heat I have not had energy left, but yesterday the temperatur suddenly fall so no I have to begin the training again.
After the show I picked up Ellie that had been with my parents. She had also come in season and was almost finish, but Charlie tought she smell nice still so he tried a little flirt. The results, Ellie beat him up and he got a wond on his nose, but doe you think hi gave up after that? NO, but finaly he is getting a little bit more relax and last night I finaly could sleep the whole night.

p6110007.jpg

Charlie with his wonded nose.
p6130003.jpg

Charlie trying to flirt with Ellie, and look how she care 😛
I also got finish with the rest of the collie wool, and this skein was much darker:

p6110004.jpg

The wool that is on my spinning wheel right no is angora yarn, that I am plying. Since I am spinning mostly lace and this is lace weight, it take so long time to ply it. But at least I got a lot of yarn when I am finish 😛

More shopping.

I took a shopping trip to To Damer I was going to change two of the Faerytale balls I got from Kicki. But as all now, when you go to a yarn shop you are alway tempted to buy a little bit more. So I bought two ball more of Faerytale and the latest pattern magazine from Du Store Alpakka, beautiful patterns. I also bougth some circular needles from Knitpick, they are much better then Addi the cable are very different. No I think I will just pay the the knitting needles set, I save a lot of money buying the set.

.p5220010.jpg

I also plyed the merino&silk yarn with the Navaho plying ore chain plying it is also called, but I think I will like to ply 3 tread yarn instead. It takes quicker time, but also I got a shorter yarn.

p5220012.jpg

More yarn arrived.

Since I was so satisfied with the quality of Indidecita the alpaca yarn 123knit.com are selling, I orded some more. The colors I was not so pleased with, they where very different from the photos at the webpage. Typical enough I was thinking on order the shade card but I did not, well I will doe that next time for there is nothing wrong with the quality.
The Navy Blue are very flat boring blue color, the Seagreen are the same but the Dark Camel are wonderfull. So I think I just sell the colors I don’t like, and keep the remaining.

p5180026.jpg

I was also a little bit unsecure of the purple color in the angora & silk yarn, so I overdyedit and this time I also used a packet of Black Cherry (KoolAid) and this time I was very pleased with the results. No I just need to get more of the Black Cherry and most of importance I promise, next time I will remember to take photos of the prosecc and write down the recepie 😛

p5180016.jpg

I also tryed 3 plying using the Navaho method it went well, but I need to practise on the twist so I can get the yarn in balance. Here is a link to a intersting article about Navaho plying ore plying chained singles like it is also called.

In on of the norwegian hoby forum I am member of, someone had posted about this little boy: «Seven year old Shane Bernier is a brave cancer patient at CHEO and he is asking people to send him a card for his birthday on May 30th. Shane wants to set a world record for the most number of cards received!» Here is his webpage.
